Why Hair Stylists Wear Black.
From:  Yojaveo

A client said to me this morning “wow, your wearing a green shirt
today!”, with surprise in her voice. I answered  “yes, I know it must
seem unusual from the consistent black that I always wear.” Most
clients assume that black is the culture color for hairstylists these
days. Fact of the matter is that there are many reasons why stylists
wear black so often. The number one reason is, you guessed it,
black is slimming and looks good with little effort. An all black
wardrobe can make laundry day much easier. Getting dressed in the
morning is so much more easy when you don’t have to spend time
trying to match a top to a bottom. Black clothes can hide dirt better
than other hues and perceivably help the clothes last longer. A
stylist is always getting things on their clothing from overspray at the
shampoo bowl to loose hair and products, things are always getting
smeared on the clothes. Hair color can also do a number on clothes
so when a spot of color does leave a mark the stylist can simply take
a Sharpie pen and color in the spot, perfect camouflage. Black is the
unspoken, adopted uniform color of choice with many stylists
although many beauty companies require the black dress code for
uniform professionalism and branding. Some stylists believe that
hairdressing is all about the client so wearing black will take the
spotlight off of them and will put the emphasis on the client. Black
can be perceived as a color of confidence. Besides looking slim and
cool, wearing black clothing can give the feeling of strength and
control, something all of us could use once and a while. And yes, the
green shirt now has a dark brown color stain on it.
